For normal going on a walk" walking, my favorite for most dogs is a flat buckle (normal) collar and a leather leash. Then I play the game called When the dog hits the end of the leash I say "oops" and stop in my tracks. When the dog turns around towards me to say "what they heck was that?" (loosening the leash) I say "yes! good walking with me!" and walking again. Most dogs to auto-correct after 2-3 repetitions and in a couple of days they to automatically walk within a radius of me. I would use a prong collar and do the same thing for a dog that was a strenuous puller because I like the tracheal damage caused by straining on a normal collar or the back and other injuries that constant tugging can cause on me! I would switch back to a normal collar as soon as possible, once the straining had stopped altogether.

For a formal heel, I teach without a leash at all and only proof with a prong collar when the dog has shown me it knows what "heel" means. I play the heeling game which works like this: I put the dog in a sit and position myself so they are in heel position. Then I throw a "yes! good heel! good heeling! yes!" and give a treat. I do that a dozen times and we are done for the day. The next day I do that 2-3 times, then, right after a when the dog is standing, I say "(name), heel!" walk forward a step or two and pat my leg. I help them get into heel position and sit without additional commands (but with verbal encouragement). They get the and treat when their butt hits the floor in heel position. I work with that until the dog will FLY into a sit in perfect heel position from anywhere in the room. The final step is to go from the sitting heel to the moving heel – I say "heel" and walking and the dog is glued to my left leg, but they sit because moving! I go only a few steps at first, and stop suddenly so they can get the and treat by giving me that sit. Soon the "game" gets more challenging as I change directions and speeds – but that dog is glued to my leg just waiting for me to stop so their butt can instantly hit the floor in perfect position to "win" the game and get their reward. I use a prong when I have a dog that has decided they only want to play that game on their terms – i.e. not when distracted – and are losing their sharpness and edge. My current dog needs a prong reminder about twice a year to stay in competition form, just to remember that I give commands not requests.

As for teaching to heel here is a post I made on that the other day:

Hold a leash in your left hand and slightly behind your back so that the dog is standing beside your left heel. When you walk make sure you give a little slack in the leash so your not pulling the head up. Remember to walk with purpose because if you are walking to slow when you first out your dog will be pulling the leash to move faster. If your dog to pull simply stop walking and make him sit. If your dog stops and you GENTLY pull the leash and say his name to get his attention. Also remember to have treats with you for positive reinforcement.

As for your other question my dogs always heel when told. If we are going for a walk they heel. Even if we go for a walk and they are not on the leash they must heel unless told otherwise.

Sounds like your packets initiated from Router 2 are making it to the destination, but ISP router know where to send it back to, so it goes in the bit-bucket.

It "taking the easy way out" to use training equipment for the purposes of TRAINING. The idea is to teach a behavior with the aid of equipment along with reinforcement…..and once the behavior is FULLY learned the equipment should no longer be necessary.

IMO a retractable lead is not considered "training more like "walking equipment" and ideally, should only be used with a dog who is already trained. If used at all. I get the appeal, personally….the plastic things are bulky and sometimes not very sturdy, there is very little direct control over the line, it can get tangled, etc.

A traditional harness "training equipment" either, its only real function is as a restraint. They do make training harnesses, however, that discourage pulling on the leash. And I actually used one successfully to train one of my dogs to heel. They work, but lots of people tend to use them as "band-aids" and just rely on them all the time, rather than actually training the dog. Same goes with the Halti.

The "best method" is whatever approach works for YOU and YOUR DOG, with a good dose of COMMON SENSE applied. And a few grains of salt for some of the things you find on the Internet (never attach the lead to the collar? Maybe in a fantasy land where doggies work for rainbows and lollipops?) I have used prong, choke, e-collar, slip lead, anti-pull harness and I have trained on a plain buckle collar. Depends on the dog and what he responds to best.

I tend to use the half chokes which I like, and mine wear leather with brass fittings.

If you use any tool such as those mentioned then you are still not teaching the dog to really walk to heel. ie.. take the tool away and the dog back to bad behavior.

Always best to put in the time and in the first place, although I always practise what I preach there as some of the foster rotties I get in are just too strong without a "tool" of some kind as they have often been allowed to get away with bad manner for too long.

I have used all of them except the retractable lead (hate those things) effectively on different dogs.

I believe on Mac that Azureus>Preferences brings up the Option screen.
On the Option screen, first go to Mode and set it to Advanced and Save.
Then to Transfer and enable the "Use Lazy Bitfield" option and Save.
Then to Connection Encryption.
Enable encryption to RC4 level and allow incoming and outgoing non-encrypted fallback options and Save.

Other than that it depends on the torrent swarm you are on. If the Seed/Peer ratio is high, then there will be a lot of fluctuation as there are more seeds than peers and the peers can be picky. If the Seed/Peer ratio is low, your upload should be more consistent as the Peers need you since there are few seeds.

It is nonsensical to rule out a tool based on the fact that some ignorant people may misuse it because they put a pinch or e-collar on the dog without having been first pro trained how to fit & an abusive moron who want to show the dog "who is boss" abuses the tool to "dominate" the dog & break its will.

My opinion based on experience with my dogs, fosters or volunteering with breed rescue with the exception of the e-collar which I intend to use post surgery on my high prey drive b*th is:

~ Halti, gentle leader or other type of head collar are designed to prevent the dog from using its body weight against it owner, as it is controlled by the head. It prevents an owner from actively training a dog that yes it has choices as to how it behaves, but good behavior is rewarded by the absence of a correction & praise, the dog has an easier life.

~ The choke collar is an inanimate piece of training equipment, with one point of pressure on the neck when corrected, will lock against the neck & not slacken if fitted incorrectly, & if the dog continues to pull it will choke, so the potential for misuse through ignorance is greater than with a pinch collar.

~ I like the prong because it distributes pressure evening round the neck when it bites [pinch pressure by round prongs] & is just a tool to train a wilful & determined dog that it if chooses to follow its instinct or inclination, unwanted behavior will cause an immediate correction that is hard enough redirect it focus away from what it was doing or showing an interest in & back to its owner.

~ Harnesses, fine for some dogs, but were designed for the purpose of pulling, so counterproductive if that is the behavior you want to control in a powerful & head strong dog that will not easily bend its will to its owner.

~ Retractable are misused by people who allowed the dog to walk with it extended on the pavement, they get caught on trees, bushes & other objects, can pose a hazard to other dogs/owners, the stop function does not always work, if you trained a reliable recall & the dog has sprinted to the end of the lead, behavior could be causing a nuisance before the owner can retract the lead.

I prefer a long training lead, used in open areas where it is safe to use to train the dog with increased level of environmental stimulus.

~ E-collar, if used by someone who has been trained to use the tool to proof a trained behavior, then it can be very effective to accomplish a recall regardless of whatever environmental distraction the dog is exposed to in its everyday life. It associates the correction with its behavior, so learns it is unrewarding to follow its instinct or do whatever had caught its interest & chooses compliance.

this is done to conserve the overall bandwidth available for the internet service provider.
